  • Pratt Institute/BF+DA Positive Impact Awards:

    need to nominate 3 faculty members, email nominations to Carolyn (csds@pratt.edu) or Tina (tjin3@pratt.edu)  by Friday 09.23.2016. Anyone can nominate full/part time faculty at Pratt (last year’s recipient Carl Zimring)

Carolyn Schafer (Sustainable Departement Coordinator)

  • Currently working on:
  1. proposing sustainable coordinator in every department
  2. Interior Design Department has succeeded in supporting a sustainable coordinator
  3. Give/Take:
    – A successor to Turnup Art Supplies
    – Recapture/reuse art supplies and give away to students for free
    – Location: Steuben basement
    – Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 5-10pm, Sun 2-10pm
    – To donate materials at Give/Take stations, please go to Give/Take Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/prattgivetake for locations
    – Contact CSDS (csds@pratt.edu) for donating large-sized items
  4. Need to coordinate with department faculties to inform/encourage students to  reuse these materials

  • Currently working on:
  1. Collaboration with SGA on documentary screening How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change from Josh Fox, dates: 10.04-10.07 or 10.11-10.14, location: TBD
    – Part 1 Tue, Wed, Thurs: film screening in different locations on campus;
    – Part 2 Fri: Fox joins screening and presents his ideas to/discuss sustainable  development with faculty and students
    – Email Envirolutions for selected faculty and student representatives to attend    Friday’s event

    – Growing plants for natural pigments and dyes

  1. Raising awareness for Reforming the Energy Vision (REV): Reduce Energy by 50% across New York State by 2030
  2. Blue Week: 09.25.2016 12-3pm Rockaway Beach Cleanup (Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary)
  3. Organizing Protests against climate change through rallies around New York Sate in early November
  4. Organizing campaigns during election days from 7am – 7pm at MTA subway stations to get people registered
  5. Live projecting debates for all three presidential debates
  6. NYSDEC Part 360 Regulation: a major revision of the Part 360 Solid Waste Regulations
    – 09.13.2016 public comments due
    – raise awareness and read over the proposal
    – set precedent for other states
